What is building safety month?
Building Safety Month was founded in 1980 by the International Code Council. The council originated to encourage builders and building owners to adopt modern building code and to ensure compliance among builders worldwide in order to promote public safety. A diverse network of over 57,000 partners nationwide including government municipals, non-profits, corporations, and private organizations all come together to address issues and safety concerns regarding the structures where we work, play, and live.
By following modern and up to date codes and regulations provided by the International Code Council (ICC), builders and property owners can help break the cycle of our local communities suffering repeat damage and injuries caused by natural disasters. Additionally, by ensuring your business or home is up to code you can help protect the environment and preserve our natural resources.
Following the ICC's codes and regulations can help promote a safe environment however, chaos and confusions are often the by product of a disaster. With the help of your local SERVPRO Franchise you can help reduce some of this chaos. By having an Emergency Ready Profile in place, you have the chance to reduce damage in an emergency. For example, a sprinkler head can produce 8-24 gallons of water per minute. Do you know where the shut off valve is in the event of a malfunction? A SERVPRO Emergency Ready Plan is a comprehensive document which contains the exact location of shut off valves and vital contact information. Additionally, our Emergency Ready Plan can be accessed via our iPhone and Android mobile app 24 hours a day, 7 days a week because disasters don't stop just because it's not business hours.
