Preparing an Emergency Flood Kit
8/29/2019 (Permalink)
Storms and heavy rainfall can create a flood emergency rapidly. It’s important, especially if you live in a high-risk flood zone, to be alert for potential floods and to prepare yourself in case of a flood. Having an emergency pack or watertight plastic tote in an easy to access location prepared can help keep you and your family safe and at least prevent the added stress from having to search for needed items in a panic. Set aside some time and create a list of things that you would need in the event of an evacuation due to an emergency such as a flood. This list should include priority items like water and food (3+ days supply), first aid kit, medications (7-day supply), medical items and a flashlight. Listed below are additional recommended items to keep in an emergency pack:
- Rain gear
- Extra clothing, hat and sturdy shoes
- Tools/supplies for securing your home
- Multi-purpose tool
- Copies of personal documents
